Anterior Cruciate Ligament post surgery problems
Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) post surgery problems For people who dont know what ACL is, it is basically a major ligament in the knee. Known to be one of the most common sports injury, it is usually caused by a sudden jerk or twist of the knee beyond its natural angle and hence a tear in the ACL would cause the athelete to be out for 3 months to 1 year. I am a patient of a full tear on my ACL. After opting for surgery, I was hospitalized for 14 days with an average of 2 physiotherapy sessions a day. The progress was great after the surgery. However, I start to realise the unusual buldge on the side of my left knee cap. It felt like a bone jutting out. Naturally during one of the physiotherapy sessions, I asked the physiotherapist. Unfortonately no one could give me an answer. After visiting my doctor, he told me that it is possible that one of the screws had gotten loose. That was shocking. Immediately I stopped physiotherapy and was ordered to rest while I was given anti-inflammatory pills. After about 3 days, the pain subsided, and about 2 weeks the buldge went down. I thought that everything will be ok from then on. Then my nightmare came back to haunt me. Approximatey 6 months later, a similar buldge appeared on knee again. But this time it was a different location. It was location on the bottom right of my knee cap. Needless to say, the doctor told me the same thing, and i was given the same treatment. Before the operation, my doctor gave me the option to choose between two types of surgery. The single bundle and the double bundle. The latter is stronger but it is a newer method of surgery. I choose the double bundle. This also means that instead of 2 screws in my knee, I have 4. So, before considering the ACL surgery, please consider my experience before thinking of having more screws in your knee. |
